How it works
How it works
There's no cart here. Each piece is ordered from the potter for you, so it goes like this.
1. Send a request
Tell me which piece you'd like, or describe what you're looking for. Sending a request is free and doesn't commit you to anything.
2. I ask the potter
I check with the potter or kiln that the piece is available, and how long it will take if it needs to be made.
3. You get a quote
Within 3 business days I'll send you one total in US or Australian dollars: the piece, tracked and insured shipping, and import duties. When the potter can share them, I'll include photos of the actual piece. The quote is valid for 7 days.
4. You pay, if you'd like to go ahead
Reply to the quote and I'll send a secure payment link. Nothing is charged until you pay that link.
5. I buy it from the kiln and send it to you
I order the piece from the potter, check it when it reaches me, and send you photos before it ships. You'll get a tracking number the day it leaves Japan.
Import duties
- United States: under current US rules, I declare and pay the US import duties before the parcel leaves Japan. That amount is in your quote, so you shouldn't be asked to pay anything on delivery. The final assessment is made by US Customs, and if the duty worked out when I ship is different from the quote, I'll contact you before sending.
- Australia: orders valued at A$1,000 or less (not counting shipping) are not normally charged customs duty or GST at the Australian border, so I don't expect any extra charges on delivery. If the rules change before your order ships, I'll tell you before you pay.
What it costs
A sake set (one flask and two cups) usually comes to about US$180–300 or A$200–330, with shipping and import duties included. It depends on the potter and the piece. Your quote gives the exact total.
I currently take requests from Australia and the United States. The UK and the EU are in preparation.
